A little help
along the way.

How do I start?
On first use, choose a nickname or skip. In Learn, choose Capital cities or Country shapes, then a region. There are 13 paths: US state capitals plus country shapes and capitals for Central America, South America, Europe, Asia, Africa, and the Middle East. Each session has ten questions. You can leave a session at any time; completed answers are saved.
Why did the questions change to typing?
Three correct answers in a row unlock typed recall for that card. Answers within two single-letter edits receive credit, with the correct spelling shown. Another real answer from the deck is not treated as a typo. Three exact typed recalls and a run of at least five correct answers build mastery.
Why do some cards come up more often?
Flashling focuses on missed answers, spelling slips, and cards due for review. My progress shows accuracy and weak spots, with a button to practice them. Recognition and spelling build at their own pace.
Can I use it offline?
Yes. All questions and maps are bundled with the app and progress saves on your device. Cloud backup resumes on the next saved answer or app launch. You can also tap Settings → Sync now when connected.
Where is my progress?
This version uses a private installation credential, not a shared account. It does not support signing in on a different device. Resetting browser storage or losing the device credential can make its cloud backup inaccessible. A reinstall is not a guaranteed recovery method.
How do I start over or delete data?
Open Settings → Reset progress and confirm. If cloud backup is configured, connect to the internet so the backup can be deleted too. This removes learning progress, XP, badges, and streaks. Reset before uninstalling.
About the maps
Maps use public-domain Natural Earth 1:50m boundaries. They are simplified geographic outlines, not navigation or legal boundary maps. Country close-ups retain surrounding geographic context; small countries are zoomed in. Middle East is a focus region that overlaps Europe, Asia, and Africa. Regional grouping is for learning. We use UN positions to guide territorial corrections: Crimea and Sevastopol are shown with Ukraine; Gaza and the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, with Palestine; and the occupied Golan with Syria. Dashed Israel–Palestine reference lines are not agreed final borders. These reviewed areas use 1:10m geometry; the base map elsewhere remains 1:50m and has not been certified as a complete UN boundary dataset. Neighboring territories may appear as context. Country and capital facts are adapted from GeoNames under CC BY 4.0, with updated names, capital changes, and explanatory notes. Questions specify administrative, legislative, or constitutional capitals when relevant.
Boundary references
See UN resolution 68/262 on Ukraine, Security Council resolution 2334 on the pre-1967 reference framework, and resolution 497 on the occupied Syrian Golan. UN positions guide our editorial policy; our simplified maps are not official UN maps or a UN endorsement.
Accessibility
Capital-city questions use text and labeled buttons. The country-shape deck is a visual identification exercise and currently requires seeing the highlighted map. Contact us if an accessibility issue makes learning difficult.
